Making Massachusetts boy a team player of the New England Revolution

HOLIDAY, Fla. (April 2017): Star Wishes for Children kicked into high gear when finding out about Wish Kid Brady’s love of soccer and his favorite team The New England Revolution. But Brady wasn’t just going to see them play. Just as in most sports, success is achieved when working as a team, so we partnered with The New England Revolution, who graciously made Brady an honorary soccer star, signing him to a two day contract on their team!

Brady is a fun and smart child who loves sports, building Lego sets and engaging others with his songs and imaginative stories. But unlike many other healthy children, he faces many extra challenges in his life, which started as early as birth. Born by an emergency C-section, it was discovered that Brady was incapable of breathing on his own, and he was diagnosed with Charge Syndrome, a genetic condition that also brought hearing loss, vision impairment, and RAD (Reactive Airway Disease). Brady also has T-cell immune deficiency, making it difficult for him to fight off infections, so it was necessary for him to undergo monthly IVIG infusions. Fortunately he is now improving and can have weekly treatments at home, but he will need this treatment indefinitely.

Brady dreamed of being a soccer star, and with our help and the New England Revolution, his special wish of a lifetime came true. The Revolution went above and beyond for Brady, and he scored all the perks of being a team player. In addition to his two day contract which included soccer practice and hanging out with his favorite team, he also received his very own locker and official name and numbered playing jersey.

Head Coach Jay Heaps was touched by Brady’s spirit and positivity. He said, “We were thrilled to have Brady here and be a part of our team. He’s opened up everyone’s perspective. He’s a great kid who has overcome so many disadvantages and adversity and he’s so amazing.” Revolution player Kei Kamara also loved the boost that Brady brought to their team. Kamara said, “It’s been an honor to hang out with my new teammate today. It’s really special to meet someone like him.”

During the wish, Brady and his family also enjoyed luxurious accommodations on the waterfront at the beautiful Boston Harbor Hotel, dined like champions at The British Beer Company and Union Oyster House, and experienced the vibrant and innovative entertainment of The Blue Man Group.
