Star Wishes for Children partnered with Stephen Gostkowski of the New England Patriots to grant the wish of a teenage girl diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, a cancer of the bone marrow.
Stephen Gostkowski, placekicker for the New England Patriots, was flattered that Wish Kid Leah wanted to meet him and he made room in his busy schedule to spend some quality time with her. They bonded over their mutual love of New England Patriot football and shared personal stories about their lives.
Leah was diagnosed last year with acute myeloid leukemia and immediately began an in-patient chemotherapy treatment plan. When doctors were unable to find the right fit for a bone marrow transplant, Leah had to spend five months in the hospital undergoing agonizing chemotherapy treatments. For now, the chemotherapy has helped to place Leah in remission but she still needs to be monitored through monthly blood checks.
“Creating a happy memory on the heels of a harrowing experience is a precious gift that KWN strives to provide for each of our Wish Kids. Leah will be able to look back on this time in her life and recall more than just painful visits to the hospital; she’ll fondly remember meeting her idol, Stephen Gostkowski,” said Anna Lanzatella, Executive Director of Star Wishes for Children.
On behalf of Leah and her family, Star Wishes for Children would like to thank Stephen Gostkowski for making Leah’s dreams a reality.
